COURSE OVERVIEW The most widely used simulation modeling paradigms are System Dynamics (SD), Discrete-Event Simulation (DES), and Agent-Based Modeling (ABM). This course covers System Dynamics focusing on modeling and analysis of complex systems to highlight the pros and cons of this modeling paradigm. While not explored, the other modeling paradigms will be discussed in the course. COURSE OBJECTIVES The objective of this course is to expose students to different complex applications in different areas of operation (logistics, production, service, military, social, etc) and demonstrate how to model, simulate, and analyze such systems using System Dynamics. By the end of the course, students should be able to define and scope a problem, select a modeling approach, devise a model design, implement a simulation model, and run analysis using the implemented model.
